Meet the Aernies: 6/10/09

Meet the Aernies is a recurring segment in which we will answer questions provided by our small, yet faithful, contingent of readers.

1. What is your dream car?

It seems like we always make these questions more complicated than they need to be, and this one is no exception. Additionally, it’s complicated for different reasons for each of us. Allison simply doesn’t know much about cars, while Jeff likes too many.

Allison simply wants to be clearly identified as a hip, eco-friendly soccer mom, or, Lord willing, a hockey mom. If we’re blessed enough for the hockey mom title, then a hybrid SUV will likely be the only vehicle to allow her to obtain all her desired traits, as well as provide enough room to contain the smell of hockey equipment.

Jeff, on the other hand couldn’t pick just one, so he’ll give you a few. For style, a 1960 Aston Martin. For muscle, a 1969 Camaro. And for family value and safety, a 2010 Toyota Camry. (N.B. Allison made Jeff add this one.)

2. Given the means and opportunity to live in any state of the United States, in which state would you choose to live?

Our first choice would be to live in the northern part of Wisconsin. We are lake people. We also like to see all four distinct seasons. There is not really an outdoor activity that you can’t accomplish in Wisconsin. If we couldn’t live in Wisconsin, Minnesota would be just as good, especially with the added bonus of a Minnesotan accent.

Our second choice would be to live in Oregon for all of the same reasons, along with the added bonus of mountain scenery. However, we prefer to pump our own gas, so that’s why Wisconsin wins out.

Remember, no questions = no segment. So keep those questions coming.

You know the Oregonian can't keep quiet on this one :) Oregon not only has lakes and the added bonus of mountain scenery, it also has an OCEAN and no sales tax! And we'll be there. Not being able to pump your own gas seems a very small price to pay for all these benefits.

I lived in northern Wisconsin for years. I think you have made a wise choice.

Question: What 5 words would you use to describe the 7th game of the NHL 2009 Playoffs?

Alford:

Since your terrific question will likely not make it into an edition of MTA, let me answer it here.

1. Spectacular. (Game 7 for the Cup. Simply Spectacular.)
2. Heart-Attack-Inducing. (It's a good thing Allison is certified to use an AED, because the last 6 minutes of the 3rd period nearly killed me.)
3. Historical. (The Pens are now 5-0 when they are the away team in a Game 7. For the Cup, even more amazing.)
4. Legendary. (Not only was the game intense throughout, but the final hand off of the Cup was Mario Lemieux to Sidney Crosby. Legendary.)
5. Tiring. (I stayed up to see the game in real time. With the time difference it was on from 1am to 4am here in Aberdeen. It was worth every minute.)
