Line Change

We're changing it up on the fly as they say in hockey.

Abigail's Axioms is moving to a new time slot after Saturday morning cartoons starting this Saturday.

We didn't want to disappoint our regular viewers however so Abigail wanted to share one axiom before the weekend.

1. Abigail loves her Nana.

Transformed Tidbits: 3/27/09

News from the last fortnight . . .

1. Our first visitors from the other side of the pond arrived safely in Aberdeen last Sunday morning. We have enjoyed the company.

2. Allison will return to her pre-Abigail job this coming Monday.

3. Related to #2, we will be looking into some alternative solutions for jobs and childcare in the next few weeks and months. We covet your prayers concerning that situation.

4. Disappointing, yet expected, news from Wheaton College as Dr. Duane Litfin has announced his retirement as president of the College effective next year. He served the college well (at least in Jeff’s opinion).

5. We will be jumping forward an hour this weekend. So, for our American readers, we will be going Back to the Future. (Cheesy, we know).

6. We are not superstitious people, but since Abigail was born on February 6, the Pittsburgh Penguins have gone 15-4-3 and have seemingly played themselves back into the playoffs. Just saying.

Blessings.

Eyeing Edinburgh

Last Tuesday (March 10) we traveled via train from Aberdeen to Edinburgh in order to submit paperwork for Abigail’s Consular Report of Birth, Social Security Card, and Passport. The process was simple enough and we received the documentation the following Saturday (Phone line: 4 weeks; Passport: 4 days). The hardest part was probably enduring the seemingly rehearsed, and undoubtedly cheesy, speech about how American divinity students in Scotland are fulfilling their calling “to be fruitful and multiply.”

In an effort to get the most out of our train tickets we spent some of the day perusing Edinburgh. We are fairly adventuresome people, but we learned very quickly that sightseeing with an infant is a whole other ball game. Lesson learned.

As you can see from the pictures below, the castle in Edinburgh is quite different from Dunnottar castle, which we visited a few months ago. First, it is not in ruins. Second, it is right in the middle of a city.

You can see the rest of the pictures from the day here.

Abigail's Axioms: 3/18/09

A fortnightly foray into Abigail’s world

1. Smiling at Mommy is a wonderful way to express love.

2. It is rare to find clothes at the end of the day that are not saturated with spit up.

3. Daddy’s cheers for the Penguins and sound sleep do not mix.

4. Weighing in at 8 lbs. 9 oz. and being 20.6" (55cm) long is pretty sweet.

5. This is what I looked like on February 17th through the eyes of Rachel Owens.

Transformed Tidbits: 3/13/09

News from the last fortnight . . .

1. As alluded to in Abigail’s Axioms, we took our first family train ride this week. It was quite the learning experience. We traveled to Edinburgh to apply for Abigail’s American documentation, and then spent the day perusing the city. We’ll post more info and pictures from the trip next week.

2. We received the aforementioned pictures of Abigail from Rachel Owens at the beginning of this week (thanks Rachel). We’ll put some of them online next Wednesday so that we can make sure that Tidbits and Axioms begin appearing on alternate weeks.

3. We mentioned a few weeks back that two other American couples here in Aberdeen were expecting the imminent arrival of children. Abigail now has two more potential suitors with the arrival of Benjamin Charles Green and Callum Luke Ellis. Congratulations to both families.

4. A proposal to add an additional tax to purchases of chocolate in Scotland was recently voted down. Hilarious.

5. Allison will be going back to work at the beginning of April and we would appreciate prayer for that transition.

6. Just a reminder that we do not make our time switch for daylight savings for another two weeks. So, for the present time, we are one hour closer to our North American readers than normal (e.g. CST is presently GMT-5 not GMT-6).

Blessings.

Abigail's Axioms: 3/11/09

A fortnightly foray in Abigail’s world

1. Pacifiers and Bath tubs are instruments of torture

2. Thankfully, bottles of mommy’s milk are just as good as mommy herself.

3. The Pooh Theme Song (when sung by Pooh himself) can be quite comforting during a nappy change

4. Buggies, Trains and Automobiles, as long as they are moving, are wonderful sleep environments.

5. Quintessential cuteness looks like this.

One Month

Abigail is one month old today. To commemorate this occasion, I thought I would try and get a picture of her hair after a bath (it definitely has some natural curl to it, though the picture won't quite do it justice). She has already grown so much and it has been a delight to see her really processing what is going on around her and begin to recognize us.
