A New Feat

Abigail has now "mastered" the art of rolling over. Abigail first rolled over from her tummy to her back in May, a feat with which we were quite impressed. She did it a few times and then all of a sudden just stopped doing it altogether. Within the last couple of days, she finally started that up again, but this time with an added bonus. She has been working for several days now on some new moves, but she simply could not get her arms to go with the flow. Well, as you can see below, she has conquered once more.

From her back...

And "back" again...

We are awaiting the morning that we will find her on her tummy wondering how she got there. We can't wait to see what will come next!

Abigail's Axioms: 6/28/07

A fortnightly foray into Abigail’s world

1. A soft, silky blanket is the best sleeping buddy a girl could ask for.

2. Palm Trees can be quite tasty. They can also motivate one to inch across a playmat.

3. If you get tired of hands, why not try your feet?

4. One cannot fully experience an object without getting as much of said object as possible in one’s mouth.

5. I don't mind family resemblances.

Transformed Tidbits: 6/19/09

News from the last fortnight . . .

1. Abigail can now legally travel to and from the UK, so feel free to book her some plane tickets. (Fine print: Purchase of Abigail’s ticket also requires the purchase of two adult tickets for the same flight).

2. We’ve had some unique summers. For example, the words “Lower Melton,” “one mile solo portage,” and “No ma’am, I don’t actually work for Wal-Mart,” come to mind. This is, however, the first summer since we started preschool that at least one of us hasn’t had a “summer break.” That, of course, is a testimony to our age, but what do you want us to do, speed up time?

3. In the 9/12/08 edition of Tidbits Jeff wrote: “NHL Training camps are just around the corner. Be sure to jump on the Penguins bandwagon in time for this year's run to the Cup.” That is why you should always listen to Jeff. And yes, getting up for three hours in the middle of the night to watch Game 7 was worth the weekend of fatigue.

4. Allison does not like lettuce on her sandwiches. Cucumber, yes. Lettuce, no. If you can figure that out, please let Jeff know.

5. Is it a sign that you've definitely entered parenthood if you watch the rest of Baby Einstein while your child sleeps so you can learn about the rest of the neighborhood?

Blessings.

Abigail's Axioms: 6/13/09

A fortnightly foray into Abigail’s world

1. It has not yet been decided if being called a “peanut” is insulting or endearing.

2. Laughter all day keeps the doctor away.

3. Grammy C. sends some not-so-subliminal messaging.

4. Go Huskers!

5. Frilly dresses are much better to eat than to actually wear. In fact, one can do both at the same time.

6. Shoes or Socks? You decide.

Meet the Aernies: 6/10/09

Meet the Aernies is a recurring segment in which we will answer questions provided by our small, yet faithful, contingent of readers.

1. What is your dream car?

It seems like we always make these questions more complicated than they need to be, and this one is no exception. Additionally, it’s complicated for different reasons for each of us. Allison simply doesn’t know much about cars, while Jeff likes too many.

Allison simply wants to be clearly identified as a hip, eco-friendly soccer mom, or, Lord willing, a hockey mom. If we’re blessed enough for the hockey mom title, then a hybrid SUV will likely be the only vehicle to allow her to obtain all her desired traits, as well as provide enough room to contain the smell of hockey equipment.

Jeff, on the other hand couldn’t pick just one, so he’ll give you a few. For style, a 1960 Aston Martin. For muscle, a 1969 Camaro. And for family value and safety, a 2010 Toyota Camry. (N.B. Allison made Jeff add this one.)

2. Given the means and opportunity to live in any state of the United States, in which state would you choose to live?

Our first choice would be to live in the northern part of Wisconsin. We are lake people. We also like to see all four distinct seasons. There is not really an outdoor activity that you can’t accomplish in Wisconsin. If we couldn’t live in Wisconsin, Minnesota would be just as good, especially with the added bonus of a Minnesotan accent.

Our second choice would be to live in Oregon for all of the same reasons, along with the added bonus of mountain scenery. However, we prefer to pump our own gas, so that’s why Wisconsin wins out.

Remember, no questions = no segment. So keep those questions coming.

Transformed Tidbits: 6/5/09

News from the last fortnight . . .

1. Summer has come and gone here in Aberdeen. Two straight days of sun and near 70, followed by a nice long streak of rain.

2. But, if you're in Aberdeen and the rain has got you down. Why not swing by the Grampian Beer Festival?

3. Do all babies know to hold it in until right after you check their diaper?

4. Penguins 2, Red Wings 2; Game 5 on Saturday.

5. It appears that we've got the green light to stay in our current flat as long as we would like.

Blessings.

Baptism Pictures

Here are some pictures from Abigail's baptism on Sunday. You can click on the images for a larger version.

Thanks to Emily Malone for the photography. You can peruse this post for information concerning what we believe about baptism.

In addition, as promised in last week's edition of Abigail's Axioms, Abigail is currently weighing in at 12lbs 10oz. A weight which easily makes her the runt of the new American babies here in Aberdeen.

Made in America: Part 4

Made in America is a continuing series on some of the humorous and relatively inconsequential differences of our life here in Scotland.

This is a picture of a BBQ sauce bottle from our fridge.

Notice the relatively low quantity of BBQ sauce. We have yet to be successful in our search for “real” BBQ sauce in Aberdeen. So, this is not only a humorous insight into a cultural difference, it is also a plea for help.

Can the months of June, July, and August be referred to as summer if one does not have a sufficient supply of BBQ sauce? Only you can prevent us from having to find out.

Cheers.
